Hyundai Tucson 2010 Starts at $19,790
The stylish new 2010 Hyundai Tucson will start at $19,790 in GLS trim with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. Standard equipment in GLS guise is generous and includes six airbags, iPod connectivity, hill-start and downhill-braking assist, air conditioning, and more. The GLS with automatic transmission is $20,790.
Moving up to the Popular Equipment package Tucson GLS requires $22,490 and nets a standard six-speed automatic, 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, Bluetooth phone connectivity, a telescoping steering wheel, automatic up/down power windows, tinted glass, and some exterior dress-up trim. The Navigation package costs $24,490 and adds a navigation system, a rear-view camera, a higher-output stereo, and automatic headlights on top of the Popular Equipment package.
For $25,140, the Tucson Limited comes with all the toys from the Popular Equipment package, plus 18-inch wheels; leather, heated, and power seats; automatic headlights; fog lights; some exterior chrome trim; and dual-zone climate control. The Premium Package tacks on navigation, a panoramic sunroof, a rear-view camera, an upgraded stereo, and removes the Tucson’s roof rails, for $27,990. All-wheel drive is available for an additional $1500 on all but the base GLS trim.
Redesigned for 2010 with a new, aggressive face and a handsome, sporty interior, the Tucson remains a Honda CR-V competitor as a five-passenger crossover sport-utility. Europe will get a diesel engine, but initial U.S. versions will have only a 2.4-liter, gasoline four-cylinder.

New BMW Hybrids Arrive Late to Game
BMW announced today that its first hybrid, the ActiveHybrid X6, will make its world premier at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and will arrive in US showrooms in late 2009. BMW will also show the ActiveHybrid 7—which will reach the US in spring 2010—in Frankfurt.

We posted spy photos of the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 last month, when we received a report that the first production vehicles were rolling off the line at BMW’s Spartenburg, SC manufacturing facility. The latest announcement confirms BMW's progress with its hybrids.
The ActiveHybrid X6 is a full hybrid vehicle that delivers a full dose of oomph—480 horsepower when you combine power from the twin-turbocharged V8 4.4-liter gas engine and two electric motors. Fuel efficiency is improved by about 20 percent when compared to a comparable conventional vehicle, pushing the Hybrid X6’s fuel economy just above the 20-mpg mark. Expect zero-to-60 performance around five-and-a-half seconds, and a price tag of approximately $70,000.
Royal College of Art Student Wins Best Automotive Interior Design Award
Praised by judges for its "free flowing form" and "occupant-centred approach", it's a worthy winner. Exhibiting a highly innovative view of the vehicle, Sabas' design frees the vehicle from traditional and technical limitations. The concept rethinks the vehicles interior, designing from the inside out for maximum protection.
Euan Sey, chair of the judging panel and editor of Interior Motives magazine, comments: "Pierre is an inspirational designer, whose creation demonstrated innovation by taking credible technologies a step further. The result offers the driver an exhilarating feeling of driving that is also safer than existing vehicles. And with its simplistic interior, free from gadgets and clutter, this conception really does push the boundaries of design."
